I recently did an informal survey of my neighborhood and was amazed at how many people are hustling on the side. (Not including anything illegal)
We have a retired barber who cuts hair daily from his apartment. We have an auto mechanic who does small repairs on everyone’s car. There is the candy lady, the babysitter, the lady who sells jewelry, the handyman, the ebay seller, the list goes on.
These are regular people like you and me who probably looked at their monthly budgets and realized they had to do something more to make ends meet.
They evaluated their knowledge, skills and interest and determined that they possessed something of value that they could offer for sale to our neighbors.
I want you and everyone who reads this post to realize that you can do the same thing if you desire to do so.
There is money to be earned in all our neighborhoods.
You have to be willing to do three things.
First you must be willing to leave your comfort zone. Success begins at the end of your comfort zone.
Two, you must be wiling to approach/make contact with people who you do not know personally. This can be frighting for some of us. We live in our own bubbles.
And third, and most important, you must be able and willing to hear the word “no”.
Understand that a no is not a rejection of you personally. It can mean many things. I admit it may really mean no, but it could also mean, now is not a good time; it could mean I don’t have money right now; or it could mean, I’m not familiar with you enough to spend money with you, etc.
When someone tells you no, you will not know what the true meaning is until there is more interaction between you and that person.
As you prepare to join the underground economy and start a new side hustle, prepare to hear the word no, but do not let it stop you. A poster I recently read said “the person who hears no the most, wins the most”.
