“Hi, how much do you charge” I asked, as I pulled my car along side the young man standing by a white van.
“$15 for the outside or $20 for the inside and outside” he answers with a broad smile.
I have been watching this guy since he sat up shop on the street near the entrance of our apartment complex. He is operating a mobile car wash. He and his partner always seem to have plenty of customers lined up.
They offer washing, waxing, special attention to your rims, vacuuming, deodorizing, etc. Their work supplies consist of a generator, high pressure water canister, car wash supplies and plenty of elbow grease.
This is an example of finding a need in your community and filling it. These two guys saw that people who drive cars don’t always have time to go to the car wash and they knew that people really love a clean car. So they set up shop with what they could get their hands on and started earning a couple hundred dollars a day.
Let’s take this a step further and see what happens if they chose to scale up from car washing to car detailing.
I watched two interviews on Youtube of two guys who have done the same thing, only they have mobile automobile detailing businesses.
Both men said they started with about $500. They each have work crews and earn about $30,000 per month. They charge up to $400 per car.
Customer satisfaction is understandably their number one priority. The cars they detail are white glove cleaned from top to bottom
Their supplies and equipment include car washing general supplies such as towels and brushes, washing compounds and waxes. They also use a power washer, a buffer with different type pads, a wet/dry vac and compressed air to blow out the nukes and crannies.
Their number one expense is labor. Except for supervising work crews, their number one activity is target marketing. About 45% of their business is repeat customers.
They market their businesses by keeping in contact with customers and prospects using the telephone, business cards, flyers, their web site, google page, Facebook, Instagram, Yelp, etc.
It’s a fact, Americans love their cars, but they don’t always have the time and /or energy to give them the attention they require. This creates a great opportunity, that doesn’t require any specialized training, for someone to earn a better than average income providing this much appreciated service.
The Youtube channel I watched is Upflip. They present different businesses and show you how they work.
