Big Things Start Small

Jeff Bezos, one of the best marketers in the world and the founder of Amazon, says it all the time: “Big things start small.”

Of course they do. Everyone knows that.

“A journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step.” “Pennies make dollars.”

We hear this stuff every day, but do we really hear it?

If you’re searching for the key to unlock your God-given potential, allowing you to earn enough money to access more options in your life, this blog post is your blueprint.

The truth is, you already possess that key. Following is how to turn it and open the door to a brighter, more abundant future.

What are your dreams?  What is your financial goal? What additional amount of money would you be content with? Whatever the answer, you possess the key.

The topic of my last blog post was “consistency,” and I spoke about my dad and how I admired his consistent work ethic. The thing you should realize is, consistency is a conjoined twin, and the twin’s name is discipline. You can’t have one without the other.

In your journey, you must realize that these two pillars are essential. Consistency ensures that you keep moving forward, even when progress seems slow. Discipline ensures that you stay on track and don’t get distracted by short-term temptations.

One line in that post says, “Remember, success often comes from the cumulative effect of small, consistent efforts over time.” Basically the same thing Bezos says.

Concentrate your business efforts on the small things, along with being disciplined. And like Bezos and my dad, you should always keep customer service as your number one priority.

When Bezos started Amazon, he didn’t begin with a colossal online marketplace that sold everything under the sun. He began with books. Just books. It was a small step, but it laid the foundation for what Amazon would become.

Similarly, your journey towards financial freedom doesn’t require a grand start. It simply requires taking that first step and then another, and another.

Customer service is the heartbeat of any successful business. Bezos often attributes Amazon’s success to its customer-centric approach. My father also prioritized customer service with his gas stations, understanding that a satisfied customer is a repeat customer.

Generally In my blog,  I often reflect on personal experiences to draw out lessons. In one of my posts, “Can’t Wish It or Dream It, Got to Go Get It,” I talked about holding each other accountable as we start our businesses.

Accountability is another small but crucial step. Sharing your goals and progress with someone can provide the motivation and support needed to keep going.

Consistency and discipline go hand in hand. My father’s relentless work ethic was a testament to this. Owning two gas stations, he worked tirelessly, often missing out on family time, to ensure the businesses thrived. It was his consistent effort and discipline that made his measure of success possible.

In your business efforts, you must place a high emphasis on customer service. I make it a priority with  my eBay store, “just4U”. Treating customers with respect, listening to their needs, and going the extra mile to ensure their satisfaction should be your primary focus.

The blueprint for success is simple: start small, be consistent, stay disciplined, and prioritize customer service. By focusing on these key areas, you can achieve your financial goals.

As stated before, the key to unlocking your potential is already within you. Whether you take your first step or additional steps, know that each step is part of your larger journey which brings you closer to your financial goals and the freedom to live the life you envision.

Big things do indeed start small. Whether it’s building a business, achieving financial freedom, or any other goal, the principle remains the same. It’s the small, consistent efforts, fueled by discipline and a commitment to customer service, that lead to success.

As we move forward, be reminded of the wisdom in many of our everyday quotes. Many aren’t just clichés; they are truths, that when embraced, can transform our lives.
