“I’m thinking of starting a home business, but I don’t know what type. How can I find out what business I am best suited for”?
No one can give you the perfect answer to this question. We can only offer suggestions and/or show you what others did.
Following are a few methods others have used to determine the type home based business to start.
Some people looked at their current or prior career field and modeled some aspect of it into a business of their own. It is common for a person with a hobby or a special skill to market products or services related to it.
Some people sell products that they buy wholesale, or through retail arbitrage. Still others choose to sell used merchandise on internet platforms like ebay.
There is also, what I call, business in a briefcase. These are the prepackaged businesses that are highly structured and usually offered through large corporations. They remind me of a franchise without the brick and mortar. Their products are marketed to the public through direct sales representatives and agents who join them as independent contractors/business owners. Many of these contractors are very successful earning many thousands of dollars. Some of these corporations are popular household names such as Avon, Home Interiors, Amway, Primerica, Mary Kay and many more.
For a current listing of hundreds of direct marketing corporations contact the Direct Selling Association (dsa) 1666 K street, NW, WA, DC 28006.
There is no right or wrong business, only what is right or wrong for you.
The more a home business compliments you personally, the better chance you have of it succeeding.
I like comparing the selection of a home based business to the selection of a pair of shoes or a suit of clothes.
It doesn’t matter how good the outfit looks on someone else, the outfit has to fit you and not clash with your personal attributes or your personality.
If the shoes pinch and you don’t like the way the suit looks on you, you are not going to be happy with them. It’s the same with a home business.
This is the reason one person can go into a home business and make a fortune, while another person who is not compatible with that business but who has identical circumstances and the same amount of capital can go into the same business and be broke or closed in a month or two.
The bottom line is, select a home based business that compliments your personal strengths and qualifications as well as one that you like and have enthusiasm for and you will shift the odds of success in your favor.
If you should pick a home business that does not work out, do not be disheartened. You now have valuable information that you can apply to your next endeavor.
You only fail when you give up and stop trying.

We are somewhat familiar with each other so I know a little of your story. I want to commend you for being able to look at your situation and see that you have a marketable skill. You know how to “clean house”. You decided to get your certification now you have a number of paying clients that you clean for on a regular basis. Your story is inspiring, thanks for sharing.
